Your career as an agent

As a Baltimore Life agent, you will help new and existing clients determine their ever-changing insurance needs and find product solutions to meet those needs.

Becoming an agent gives you the opportunity to put your people skills to work by making sure your clients and prospects are protected against the uncertainties of life.

Protect families

The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE) often states “Life insurance isn’t for those who die, it’s for those who live.” We help our policyowners take care of their family’s future should they die prematurely.

Build and keep relationships

We are proud of our 130-year-plus history, and of our reputation with policyowners for many generations. With compassion and support, we help our clients and their families through difficult decisions and ultimately, the death of a loved one. The ability to earn a living while helping others through difficult times will be the most rewarding aspect of your career.

Markets we serve

Our agents and associates provide financial protection to the middle-income individuals and families in the U.S.

Our Career Agency Sales Group operates 10 agencies in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia serving middle-market consumers in these and surrounding states. Our market consists of a number of segments – young families just starting out, first-time homeowners, established families planning for retirement, retirees looking to pass assets on to the next generation, small-business owners offering employee voluntary benefits, and many more.

Sales technology

Our INSpeed® NOW point-of-sale underwriting, MobileLink agent guides, and our online product toolkits are just a few of the tools to help build your business, save time, and increase your productivity.

INSpeed® NOW

INSpeed® NOW is our electronic application system that offers both automated and live underwriting. Agents complete applications over the phone with our call center representative and their client or using the eapp on their own device. Signatures are taken using DocuSign and voice-recorded signature options. Currently, we offer this paperless application process for our aPriority® Whole Life, Term, and Universal Life products along with our Silver Guard® product.

Point-of-Sale Underwriting Process

Baltimore Life takes quick response to a new level by providing point-of-sale underwriting decisions for our asset transfer portfolio. After a point-of-sale telephone interview and a prescription drug database check, you will receive a decision for approximately 90 percent of your cases before you hang up the phone.

MobileLink

MobileLink is a mobile web page that provides you with product details, rate and cash value calculations, underwriting guidelines and more, right at your fingertips. MobileLink works on most mobile devices with no installation required. Visit mobile.baltlife.com for rates, underwriting information, and the rate calculator for Silver Guard®.

Product Toolkits on our Secure Agent Website

The product toolkits available on our secure agent website enable you to find everything you need to market and sell a product at a glance, saving you valuable time and making you even more productive.

These toolkits provide a wealth of valuable information for each product, including:

  • A printable application package
  • A state approval listing
  • A forms listing organized by category (Agent Reference, Marketing Materials, Point-of-Sale, Recruiting)
  • On-demand training (Product training, webinar registration, concepts by market and/or life stage)
  • Product-related news and announcements
  • Replacement forms

Impact on our communities

Our agents are committed to having a positive effect in the communities where they live, work, and serve their clients. Every day presents new opportunities to strengthen our communities while helping clients make some of their most important decisions.

Through programs like our annual Community Grants Program and our ID events (including child ID, medical ID, and SportSmart® ID), our agents take pride in making their neighborhoods safe, diverse, and enriching places to live.

Community Grants Program

Each year, Baltimore Life awards grants to multiple nonprofit organizations in select areas. Special consideration is given to organizations addressing family, safety and community enhancement issues.

Child fingerprinting and ID events

Child safety is of special importance to Baltimore Life. We offer our child photo identification program in partnership with local schools, child care agencies and businesses. In 2012, we held more than 200 child ID events, with a resulting 5,000 children being fingerprinted.

Training and professional development

We offer excellent tools and technology to provide high quality in-person and online training and development to our agents. It’s common for our agents to enter this career with no prior special training or experience in financial services. Instead, we invest heavily in training and developing people who have the right mix of people skills and work ethics.

Baltimore Life is strongly committed to developing our career agents. We believe that in order for our business to grow, our people must grow. We accomplish this through our industry-leading training programs, leadership tools, marketing support and incentives.

Multi-phase training

The trainer and/or manager uses role-play, observation, video presentation, lectures, and joint field activities to train you. Our interactive training allows you to get real-life sales experience. The goal is to help you start building your career within two weeks of hire.

Enrichment

Life Underwriter Training Council (LUTC), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) studies, and advanced industry courses develop skills necessary to be successful in a sales career.

Compensation and benefits

We are pleased to offer competitive compensation and incentives to our agents, as well as a comprehensive benefits package. Our compensation plan rewards hard work and excellence with unlimited income potential that grows as your client base grows.

Upon hire, your compensation pool (core) is established. All earnings are credited to your core, including first-year commissions, overrides, bonuses, renewals, and service fees. The amount of overrides and bonuses depends on your paid first-year commissions.

A weekly payout is drawn from the core. This system enables new agents to stabilize their pay from week to week, and avoid the initial pressures of starting in the insurance business.

In addition, Baltimore Life provides comprehensive benefit options for you and your family, including health and dental insurance, 401(k) plan, flexible spending accounts, group life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment plans, and short- and long-term disability leave.

The company pays a large percentage of the cost of employee benefits. The portion of group benefit premiums paid by you are deducted before income taxes are withheld from your pay, thus reducing your taxable income.

Career Builder new agent weekly training allowance

You will receive a weekly training allowance for up to 18 weeks as long as you have satisfactorily completed all training assignments and activity requirements. During this period, all commissions, overrides, and other earnings will be credited to your core. Beginning in week 19 and continuing until week 52, you will be paid 10% of your accumulated core balance each week.

That’s a full year of training allowance based on your development and One Card System progression. The amount of your weekly allowance is determined by working with your agency manager and is based on your work history and previous earnings. The Career Builder contract is designed to assist you as you sharpen your sales skills while building your core.

Bonuses

Bonuses are awarded dependent upon the completion of One Card System progression levels, individual production, and training.

Eligibility to qualify for convention

As a new agent, you are eligible to qualify for attendance at our annual agent convention. We offer prorated qualification based on your date of hire.
